Calling All Runners! Personalized Running Clinic & Evaluation
Get in top form for spring running season at special event hosted by Illinois Bone & Joint Institute

Start your spring running program off right by treating yourself to a personalized running clinic and evaluation offered by Illinois Bone & Joint Institute (IBJI). These one-hour sessions are for runners of all levels, from beginner to elite. IBJI’s team of physical therapists has designed a multi-station program that covers everything from overall strength and flexibility to foot biomechanics. Participants receive:
• Full body evaluation from a clinical perspective
• Video analysis and professional advice on improving overall mechanics
• Recommendations for a personalized home exercise program designed to improve running technique and efficiency
• Consultations with a wellness team
• Foot analysis and footwear recommendations
“We designed this clinic with the runner’s needs in mind,” according to Annika Safstrom, certified athletic trainer at IBJI. “Thorough evaluations are done by physical therapists who have worked with thousands of runners,” explained Safstrom. This is the seventh time that IBJI is offering the running clinic. “We got fantastic feedback from people who participated in our January running clinic,” said Safstrom. At the end of the session, one runner told Safstrom “I had no idea how much I could improve.”

Participants at the January event included beginners, marathoners, triathletes, and high school track runners. Some were recovering from an injury. Others were looking to prevent pain as they ramp up for their 2015 running goals. “People tell us we’ve helped them make a big difference in their performance, whether it’s correcting an error in running form or just making a slight change in technique that improves efficiency of movement,” said Safstrom.
The running clinic is offered at IBJI’s Logan Square Rehabilitation Facility at 2923 North California Avenue in Chicago. IBJI wellness specialists will be on hand to provide mini-massages and to offer advice on fitness and technology for runners. The running clinic is on Saturday, April 25 from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Advance appointments are required and space is limited to 40 runners. The cost for each personalized clinic and evaluation is $50. To reserve an appointment, email runningclinic@ibji.com or visit www.ibjirehab.com/events for more information.
