Car Crashes Through Evanston Storefront

A driver plowed through the front window of the Dempster Dunkin' Donuts Sunday morning.

EVANSTON, IL — A car crashed through the front window of an Evanston Dunkin' Donuts Sunday morning, coming to a stop at the front counter of the store. Around 10:10 a.m., a red Hyundai sedan shattered the front window at the 1900 Dempster St. location as it accelerated into the storefront, injuring several people with glass, police said.

Four people were injured inside the store, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan. One person with an ankle injury was transported to St. Francis Hospital, while three with minor glass injuries did not require trips to the hospital.

The driver, a 56-year-old Evanston man, told police he was pulling out of a parking space in front of the Dunkin' Donuts and believed his car was in reverse when it was, in fact, in drive.
