Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Irish stories and songs, featuring singer Megon McDonough and story artist Susan O'Halloran, of Evanston.

Evanston, IL -- Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with two Irish-American women in “Pot of Gold: Irish Stories and Songs from Two of Chicago’s Own: Megon McDonough and Susan O’Halloran” on Sunday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at SPACE, located at 1245 Chicago Ave. in Evanston.
Folk-singer Megon McDonough and story artist Susan O’Halloran, both of Evanston, will delight audiences as they weave together stories and songs about the pleasures and pitfalls of being raised Irish American. The concert will include classics such as “Danny Boy” and original and humorous tunes such as “The Mary Gig,” as well as stories about searching for connection in the “old country” and the unique Irish way of dealing with “enemies.”
You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy this evening that will celebrate everybody’s heritages and look at what is universal for us all: family, sacrifice and, always, joy and laughter in the face of life’s challenges!

About Megon McDonough
Born in Crystal Lake, Ill., to a large Irish-Catholic family Megon McDonough was stirred to play the guitar and sing after watching The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. She wrote her first song at the age of 11.

By the age of 17, she was opening for such folk acts as John Denver, Steve Martin and Harry Chapin. She has performed on stages as diverse as Carnegie Hall and the Cellar Door. Megon is best known for her work as an inaugural member of the folk group The Four Bitchin’ Babes, which allowed her wit and folk sensibilities to comment on the ups and downs of everyday life.
To date, Megon has 15 solo albums to her credit, and is best known for her original song “Amazing Things.” Megon classifies her music as folk/cabaret, citing her love of theater and jazz as the reason for the unusual mix. About Susan O’Halloran
Susan O’Halloran has been a story artist since the 1970s and has been covered by such media outlets as PBS, ABC’s Nightlife, The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune. She has been featured several times at the International Storytelling Center in Jonesburg, TN, and was the keynote presenter for the National Storytelling Network’s annual conference. She is the producer of award-winning multi-cultural performances and films including Black, White and Brown: Tribes & Bridges at the Steppenwolf Theatre and More Alike Than Not: Stories of Three Americans, Catholic, Jewish and Muslim.
Susan lives in Evanston, IL. As a diversity consultant, Sue integrates her storytelling as she works with school systems, colleges and universities to create more welcoming schools where students and staff feel valued, included and respected.
