Chicago/Sheridan Project Receives Excellence Award
Transportation improvement project recognized by Chicago Metro APWA

The City of Evanston has received the Project Excellence Award from the Chicago Metro Branch of the American Public Works Association for the Chicago Avenue/Sheridan Road Multi-Modal Corridor Improvement project, which CBBEL is proud to have helped make a reality.
According to the APWA, the Project Excellence Award is determined by an anonymous vote of the Chapter Awards Committee with each of the year's Project of the Year Award winners as contenders. Earlier this year, the project was selected as Public Works Project of the Year in the Transportation category between $5 million - $25 million.
The project was a major undertaking to make the corridor friendly for motor vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians and mass transit. The Sheridan Road and Chicago corridor presented a unique opportunity in that it connects downtown Evanston with Wilmette and Northwestern University. This project includes a separate two-way protected bike lane on the east side of Sheridan Road/Chicago Avenue, designated transit stations/bus pull-off areas, traffic signal coordination and pedestrian safety enhancements.

"Chicago/Sheridan is a ‘Complete Streets’ project, incorporating environmentally friendly and efficient design while improving safety for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, public transportation users, and drivers,” said Sat Nagar, City of Evanston senior project manager. “Evanston residents, students and visitors now enjoy a multi-modal transportation corridor from downtown Evanston to Northwestern University’s campus, connecting to the Village of Wilmette’s bike lane. This project required a multi-year public engagement process, incorporating multiple stakeholders in the community and Northwestern University.”
