Chief Physician Executives Of NorthShore–Edward-Elmhurst Health Named

Three doctors will lead the newly created office of the chief physician executive at the nine-hospital conglomerate.

EVANSTON, IL — NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health officials on Thursday named a third leader of the hospital system's newly created Office of the Chief Physician Executive.

The new office will establish a medical group strategy for the recently merged nine-hospital group, according to hospital officials.

Dr. Sanjeeb Khatua, one of three co-chief physician executives, is a board-certified family medicine physician who served as executive vice president and chief physician executive for Edward-Elmhurst Health until departing last year to take a job as president and chief executive office of Unity Point Clinic, a division of the UnityPoint Health System in Iowa.

“I look forward to joining this dynamic organization and working with teams across the system to equip our physicians with the support and connection they need to thrive,” Khatua said in a statement. “Together, we’ll focus on making NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health the best place to work, learn, practice medicine and receive care.”

Hospital officials said Khatua will join NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst in July and partner with Co-Chief Physician Executives Dr. Joseph Golbus and Dr. Daniel Sullivan to develop a foundation for the hospital group's system-wide strategy.

Khatua will also work with Dr. Lakshmi Halasyamani, the system chief clinical officer, to support the integration of the system's clinical network and "the organization's value-based care strategy," according to an announcement from hospital officials.

NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst President and CEO J.P. Gallagher said he was excited to have Khatua's leadership to create a supportive environment for the more than 6,000 doctors employed or affiliated with the hospital conglomerate.

“As we continue to build momentum as a new organization, we are focused on establishing the strongest physician network across Chicagoland,” Gallagher said in a statement. “Dr. Khatua is a well-respected and visionary leader with deep operational experience and a proven track record with health system employed and affiliated physician groups. He is a champion for physician wellness, creating strong partnerships between physicians and health system leadership as well as support and alignment for change initiatives."
