City of Evanston Permit Fee Schedule Ordinance Amendment Becomes Effective March 16

Fee changes will be enacted on March 16.

Submitted by the City of Evanston

The City of Evanston’s revision to the Planning & Zoning and Building Inspection Permit Fee Schedule, Ordinance 138-O-14, will become effective on Monday, March 16, 2015 to reflect current practices and standards that are in accordance with similarly-situated municipalities.

Revisions to Planning & Zoning fees include a simplification of fees, particularly for applications that require mailing of notices, such as special use permits. In the past, the mailing fee was calculated and assessed separately. However, the new flat fee includes the cost of mailing and multiple categories for variation applications. The new revision sets the zoning analysis fees to $100 for smaller projects and $150 for larger projects.

The Building and Inspection Services Division’s updated fee structure now includes a $25 residential and $100 commercial non-refundable Plan Review deposit. Beginning March 16, deposits must be paid in advance when plans are submitted to the Building and Inspection Services. Please note that each deposit will be applied to the required Plan Review fees at issuance.

The updated ordinance also calls for a $45 re-inspection fee for same-day cancellations, missed and failed inspections, in addition to lapsed permit and post-plan review fees. To view the new Permit Fee Schedule, click here.
