A City Run To Fight Cancer At The ABC 7 Gibbons 5K

CHICAGO – Join more than 2,000 Chicagoans after work for a downtown run and walk to find a cure for all blood cancers. Join ABC 7 and the Leukemia Research Foundation (LRF) for the 22nd Annual ABC 7 Gibbons 5K and 3K Walk on Thursday, June 16th to benefit the Leukemia Research Foundation (LRF). ABC 7’s Janet Davies will return as the event emcee and announce the race start LIVE on ABC 7 at 6:26 p.m. on June 16th from Grant Park.
Enjoy a fun evening exercising in beautiful downtown Chicago, while fighting for a cure all with blood cancer. Join fellow racers and learn about why they are running at the party in the park, which will follow the race with food, refreshments and beer along with live music from Stellar Road. A special “Heroes of Hope Tent” dedicated to honoring patients and survivors will provide an opportunity for those touched by blood cancers to gather. All are invited to join the “Heroes of Hope Tent” and sign the “Wall of Hope.” In addition, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. there will be a special Kids Tent with refreshments and activities including, arts and crafts for the little ones.

An awards ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m. where the top three male and female runners will receive a commemorative medal. Medals will also be handed out to the top 3 male and female runners in each age category. Gear check will be available on-site.

The event was created to honor the memory of Jim Gibbons, a 25-year veteran investigative reporter for ABC 7 who succumbed to leukemia in 1994. Registration is now open for individuals and teams online at www.Gibbons5K.com.
