City Stalls on Harley Clarke Action

City Council decides to hold off on allotting funds to renovate.

The city of Evanston isn’t going to do anything about the Harley Clarke Mansion property until the state budget fiasco clears up.

Aldermen voted 5-4 Monday night to table plans on the Mansion, according to Evanston Now.

Eighth Ward Ald. Ann Rainey proposed the delay, stating it would be irresponsible to move forward with a proposed $500,000 renovation plan at the Mansion not knowing whether the city will suffer millions in state aid reductions.

Fourth Ward Ald. Don Wilson proposed allotting up to a half-million in repairs, to lease two apartments in the coach house for affordable housing and to move summer recreation programs there. Read more on Wilson’s plan.

Wilson, 9th Ward Ald. Brian Miller, 1st Ward Ald. Judy Fiske and 3rd Ward ald. Melissa Wynne voted against postponing action.
