City To Take Another Look At Lighting

About 20 of the traditional Tallmadge street lights have been knocked down by cars in recent years.

Since more than 20 of the city’s traditional Tallmadge street lights have been knocked down in traffic incidents over the last few years, a possibility exists to replace at least some of them with a fiberglass replica - which only costs $3,000, a little more than half of the original metal version - Evanston Now reports.

Public Works Director Suzette Robinson says the Tallmadge lightposts cost $5,500 each to replace, and since they are a custom item, the factory has to stop production of everything else to make the replacements, which reportedly are only used in Evanston.

The city already has one fiberglass replica, which was installed as a test at the west entrance of Home Depot several years ago.
