Community Mixer Planned By 5th Ward Residents
Mentors and experts offering knowledge and skills will be on hand Sunday at the Morton Center.

EVANSTON, IL — Last year, the community of Evanston's 5th Ward came together for the 5th Ward Community Festival at Twiggs Park. This year, the Fifth Ward Planning Committee is planning a new way to address the needs of residents. In the time since last summer’s festival, the committee created and issued an assessment of the needs of 5th Ward residents that and received an excellent response rate, according to the committee.
The results of that assessment informed the direction taken this year by the the committee, which has been expanded to include more residents as well as city employees and police representatives. The assessment showed that 5th Ward residents want to see more programs and services in the following areas:
- Affordable Housing
- Leadership & Entrepreneurial Skill Development
- Mental Health Services
- Secure Living Wage Employment
As a result, the committee has planned a community event where residents can hear from experts who can speak about and offer resources in each of these areas. The goal is to raise community awareness of available resources for programs and services, while connecting residents with mentors from various walks of life within the community who can aid them towards achieving their goals in these areas.

The committee asked members of the 5th Ward community to make a special effort to encourage local youth and family to attend. The workshops have been designed to address the needs of all residents, especially youth of working age in order to prepare them for success.
There will also be a raffle drawing at the conclusion of the event. Register here.
