Cook County State's Attorney Candidate Donna More Returns to Her Evanston Roots for Campaign Rally
More outlines plan to regain trust of Cook County residents: fix the office, reduce gun violence, root out public corruption
Evanstonians gathered on Sunday, January 24, at Koi Restaurant in Evanston to show their support for one of their own – Donna More, candidate for Cook County State’s Attorney. Born and raised in Evanston, the former federal and state prosecutor bolstered her grassroots campaign with a rally hosted by a group of Evanston friends and luminaries, which included More’s former sixth grade teacher and former mayor of Evanston, The Honorable Mayor Lorraine Morton.
Evanston community leader and event co-host Hecky Powell introduced the hometown candidate to the enthusiastic crowd. “We here in Evanston have prepared Donna well for this job. We all know she is the best qualified candidate in this race, and even better, she was born and raised in our city of Evanston – a city with a diverse population and with schools that prepare our kids to go out and help people and to work and communicate with all kinds of people. She deserves our support.”
More described her candidacy as one which will give voters a rare chance to “beat back power brokers and renounce corruption, cover-ups and passing the buck.”
“This election is all about trust and who has the competence and courage to earn it from the residents of Cook County,” she said. “I have a plan for restoring faith in the Sate’s Attorney’s Office that rests on three pillars: fixing the office so we follow the evidence no matter where it takes us, reducing gun violence, and rooting out public corruption.”
Joining Hecky Powell and Mayor Morton as hosts of the event were: Sam Adams, Jr., Joan Cherry, Patrick Hughes, Jr., Pat Hudson, Cheryl Judice, Thom Mannard, Carl La Mell, Thomas Molitor, Stuart and Sarah Opdycke, Honorable Edwin Reyes, Oscar Tatosian, Craig Walker, and Doug and Ron Whitmore.
