Cops: Man Inappropriately Touched Woman He Followed Off Bus

A Des Plaines man is charged with a felony after allegedly groping a Skokie woman in Evanston.

EVANSTON, IL — A Des Plaines man was arrested Wednesday after he touched a woman inappropriately, police said.

A woman called police around 7:30 p.m. to report that a man had been groping her around the 400 block of Dodge Avenue, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan. Evanston police soon arrived and located the man.

Ruslan Ilyayev, 37, of the 10000 block of Holly Lane in Des Plaines, was arrested June 14 at 8:40 p.m. and charged with felony aggravated battery in a public way, according to police.

The 26-year-old Skokie woman told police said she had been on the CTA bus when a man boarded and sat next to her. He attempted to speak to her and touched her arm, police said. She became frightened and exited the bus, choosing to wait until the next bus in order to get away from the man.

Police said the man followed her off the bus. He then tried to kiss and hug her, although she told him repeatedly to leave her alone.

According to police, he put his hand on her stomach and tried to move it downward, but she managed to pull away and call 9-1-1.
