Council Ignores Idea to Create Separate Library Taxing District

A report prepared by Corporation Counsel was placed on file and not acted on Monday night.

An idea to separate the city of Evanston’s public library into a separate library taxing district won’t move forward.

According to Evanston Now, the city’s corporation counsel prepared a report for the City Council’s Rules Committee Monday night at the original request of 8th Ward Ald. Ann Rainey, who tossed the idea out last fall in response to what was perceived as large spending increases by the appointed library board.

The report was accepted by the Council and placed on file with no further discussion.
