Crime Down in Evanston, FBI Report Shows

Unified Crime Reports from 2014 show decrease in seven of eight major categories.

Crime decreased in Evanston in 2014 compared to the year before in seven of eight categories local police departments report to the FBI as part of its annual unified crime report.

Some categories saw significant declines.

In 2014, homicides decreased from three in 2013 to one. Sexual assault numbers went from nine to three. Robberies were slightly down from 61 to 54, aggravated assaults from 112 to 93, burglaries from 337 to 334, motor vehicle thefts from 67 to 66 and arsons from 11 to five.

The only category that saw an increase was thefts, which went from 1,372 in 2013 to 1,500 in 2014.
