Man Who Jumped on Purple Line Tracks Pinned Under Train and Killed
Police say a man jumped in front of a CTA Purple Line train as it was approaching Foster Street in Evanston.

EVANSTON, IL - A person who jumped in front of a CTA Purple Line train in Evanston Friday afternoon has been killed.
Police confirmed the person who jumped from a platform at Foster Street was killed around 4:30 p.m. Witnesses have said it was a man who jumped from the platform onto the tracks just as the train was approaching.
Service on the line that connects downtown Chicago with the north suburbs of Evanston and Wilmette has been temporarily suspended between Linden Avenue in Wilmette and Howard Street in Chicago as a result.

Foster Street was closed to vehicular traffic between Maple and Sherman for two hours as emergency crews worked at the scene.

Trains scheduled between The Loop and Howard are not affected.

The Evanston Police Department has opened up an investigation, and is currently treating the situation as a suicide. Police say the person, who has yet to have been identified, was pinned underneath a train car when they arrived.

The CTA has urged riders to use the 201 Central bus in Evanston as an alternative.
The Purple Line extends as far south as The Loop and as north as Linden Avenue in Wilmette.
