Davis Street Fishmarket Closes

Owner fires a parting shot at Yelp big shots as longtime Evanston seafood option closes after 31 years in town.

EVANSTON, IL - After more than three decades in Evanston, the Davis Street Fishmarket has closed.

And with a zingy closing note on its website, the longtime Evanston staple went out with style.

“We are fortunate to have had such a great run, and we’re extremely proud of it,” read a note posted recently announcing the closure of the restaurant that’s been at 501 Davis St. since 1985. “The restaurant business has changed in Evanston; when we opened we were one of only a handful of restaurants, and that number has dramatically changed.”

The owner took a parting shot at reviewers on Yelp who have been less than supportive.

“Lastly, as a little side note, to the few cheap or negative Yelper’s who think your reviews have made you a credentialed restaurant reviewer…….KISS MY A**,” read the statement, which also suggested the eventual buyer of the property open up a place for Asian cuisine in its spot.
