Decision on Harley Clarke Won't Come Until Fall

Aldermen in Evanston will postpone on deciding fate of lakefront mansion.

Any decision on the fate of the Harley Clarke mansion and surrounding park property won’t occur until at least this fall.

The Evanston City Council voted this week to postpone further consideration and do not plan to discuss the matter again until their September 28 meeting, according to Evanston Now.

At the meeting, some spoke about the importance of preserving while others were more focused on protecting the park land.

A recent survey saw most respondents favor continued city ownership of the building. But a Northwestern professor called such self-selected surveys “fragile,” and figures show responses came disproportionately from areas along the lakefront.
