Delivery Driver With FOID But No CCL Faces Felony Charge
After getting pulled over for expired plates and smelling of weed, he explained to Evanston police he kept the gun for protection.

EVANSTON, IL — A delivery driver was arrested and charged with a firearm felony after he was pulled over for expired plates early Wednesday, police said. Shortly before 2 a.m. on April 18, police noticed a gray Nissan with registration that had been suspended for an insurance violation and stopped the car in the 500 block of Sheridan Road. Cops smelled marijuana coming from inside the car while speaking with the driver, who admitted having smoked weed earlier that night. Evanston police said he also informed officers he had a handgun.
The motorist had a valid firearm owners identification card, but he did not have a concealed carry license allowing him to carry a gun around in his car, according to police. He told police he had the gun for protection because he was a delivery driver. Officers found a loaded .22 caliber handgun on the driver, as well as a cannabis cigar, according to police.
