Divvy Bikes Come to Evanston Next Week

Ten stations will open in Evanston as Chicago bike sharing system expands.

Evanston, IL - Divvy bikes will make their debut in Evanston next week.

A total of 100 Divvy bikes and 10 bike share stations will be installed in the city next week, according to a city of Evanston news release.

“I’m excited to welcome the Divvy Bike Share program to Evanston,” said Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl. “Divvy provides community members and visitors access to an easy, healthy, affordable and environmentally friendly way to complete their last mile of travel or an option for quick trips around town.”

The stations will be part of a network of 580 in Chicagoland, most of which are located in the city of Chicago.

The addition of Divvy, the Chicago bike sharing system which launched in 2013, to Evanston has been applauded by numerous groups, like the Evanston Bicycle Club.

“The launch of Divvy in Evanston speaks to the number and variety of bike riders in Evanston,” said Tom Witt, president of the club. “Divvy will work in tandem with other City programs and projects such as Pedal Bright, Bike the Ridge and the new Dodge Avenue Protected Bike Lane to encourage cycling both for recreation and for practical purposes, such as commuting."

The bike program has also expanded to the near west suburb of Oak Park.

Stations in Evanston will be at Benson Ave. and Church St., Chicago ave. and Washington St., Sherman Ave. and Austin St., Evanston Plaza, Church St. and Dodge Ave., Central Street Metra station, Central St. and Girard Ave., Chicago Ave. and Sheridan Rd., Sheridan Rd. and Noyes St. and the Northwestern University library.
