Dog Walker Arrested On Forgery Charge

She's accused of writing stolen checks worth nearly $6,000.

EVANSTON, IL — A woman has been arrested and accused of forging checks stolen from an Evanston resident whose dogs she walked, police said.

A 62-year-old Evanston woman reported finding personal checks missing and discovered thousands of dollars missing from her account on Feb. 17.

On June 8, Shelagh Kennedy, 39, of the 5800 block of North Sheridan Avenue in Chicago, was arrested and charged with one count of forgery, a felony, according to police.

Evanston detectives tracked down the forged checks to a payday loan shop in Chicago and determined Kennedy had written at least $5,900 worth of checks, Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said.

Police said as the Evanston woman's dog walker, Kennedy had a key to her home.

Kennedy has court appearance scheduled for July 6 in Skokie.
