Downtown Evanston Farmers' Market Will Celebrate 40 Years May 9

Saturday's opening at University and Oak will mark four decades.

The Downtown Evanston Farmers’ Market will celebrate its 40th anniversary when it opens for the season this Saturday, May 9 at University Pl. and Oak Ave., behind the Hilton Garden Inn.

Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl will ring the opening bell at 8:30 a.m. and welcome attendees to enjoy the celebrated market. To mark the opening of the season, giveaway items will be distributed to the first 300 attendees following the ringing of the bell.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive to the market hungry, as food will be sold on site. This season, up to 58 vendors will sell a wide variety of goods, including fruits, vegetables, meat, flowers, cheese, milk, eggs and bakery items. Please note: LINK cards are accepted at the Downtown Evanston Farmers’ Market.

The market will be held every Saturday through November 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free parking is available in the 1800 Maple garage with ticket validation at the City of Evanston tent.
