EDC to Help Valli Produce Move to Shopping Center
Valli Produce gets help from Economic Development Corporation; plans June move.

The redevelopment of the Evanston Plaza shopping center at Dempster Street and Dodge Avenue will get its first boost when a Valli Produce store moves into the old Dominick’s location this year. That effort was aided by Evanston’s Economic Development Committee, which, according to Evanston Now, supported a request for $2 million in financial assistance.
The produce company, the first new tenant in the area in which Evanston’s city manager said would see more redevelopment soon, plans to spend more than $8 million to revamp the building. They anticipate a June opening.
The city aid would be borrowed against anticipated revenue from the tax increment financing district created for the shopping center in 2011.
