EVANSTON, IL - The city of Evanston’s Dog Beach won’t open until at least May.
City officials site erosion as the problem.
“Over the last three decades, Lake Michigan's water level has fluctuated by more than five feet. Because the water level cycle is returning to a higher lake level, much of the previous dog beach area and the Greenwood Street swimming beach are now under water,” according to a city news release.

The city is investigating the option of moving sand to the area to create a larger beach space.
The opening of the Dog Beach, which sits on the lakefront between Church and Clark streets, won't take place until at least May 1.
