ETHS Athletes/Scholars Continue Tradition of Excellence

Chris Livatino, Director of Athletics at Evanston Township High School, recently introduced three outstanding scholar athletes to the Kiwanis Club of Evanston. They included Chris Rivera, a wrestler, Leighah-Amori Wood, a member of the Girls Basketball team and Turner Dobbs, an outstanding diver. The club honors outstanding athletes, community service and Fine Arts students each month of the school year with the Ted Van Zelst award, named for an outstanding Evanston businessman, humanitarian and art collector.

Chris Rivera wrestles at 113 pounds and educated the club on how one maintains the proper weight for their weight division. His family includes many wrestlers, including an older brother and an uncle. Chris hopes to major in Mechanical Engineering as a college student and continue his wrestling career.

The second honoree Leighah-Amori Wool, is a member of the Girls Basketball team who will play on the Western Michigan Broncos team in college. She recently scored her 1200th point and loves the game. Like many of her ETHS athletes, she counts beating New Trier as a high point. She feels she has learned many life lessons playing basketball and hope to become a high school teacher, like her parents.

Diver Turner Dobbs gave the club a good explanation of the diving protocol. He will dive next year for the University of Denver and major in accounting. He began as a gymnast transitioning to diving and credits diving with adding structure to his life

Each of the students received a certificate of recognition, a book on leadership and a $25 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble.
