ETHS Girls Basketball Coach Resigns

Elliot Whitefield cites communication issues as reason for departure after five successful seasons.

EVANSTON, IL - Evanston Township High School girls basketball head coach Elliot Whitefield has resigned.

Whitefield, who went 110-44 over five seasons as the Wildkits head coach, announced his resignation Thursday, according to ETHS Sports Information. During the five seasons, ETHS won a Central Suburban League South division championship, sectional championship and four regional titles.

Whitefield cited communication problems as the reason for his resignation, namely because he didn’t teach at the high school and instead is a special education teacher at a therapeutic school in Mount Prospect.

“I walk away knowing that I gave my heart and soul to the players, while achieving a level of success that has never been matched over a five year span,” he said. “I can only imagine what we would have accomplished if I had the benefit of seeing my players throughout the (school) day."

ETHS went 25-6 overall in Whitefield's final season at the helm of the program.
