
ETHS musicians celebrate winter
Student musicians in three bands, two orchestras, and two vocal ensembles—over 300 students—will warm the air when Evanston Township High School presents its Winter Music Festival at 7pm on Wednesday, March 4, in the school’s auditorium. This concert is free and open to the public.
The program will feature a variety of musical genres from classical to folk songs to contemporary—something for everyone.

The ETHS Concert Choir, led by Mary Theresa Reed, ETHS Choral Director, will sing two songs by women composers, Ruth Morris Gray and Alicia Ann Scott. The ETHS Chorale will then join the Choir to present a Gospel Celebration featuring guest artist Fred Reed Jr.
Orchestral highlights include selections by Rimsky-Korsakoff and Aaron Copland, both played by the ETHS Symphony Orchestra. The String Orchestra will offer favorites by Gustav Mahler, Erik Satie, Aram Khatchaturian, and Richard Meyer. Charles Abplanalp, ETHS Orchestra Director, will conduct.

The varied band repertoire includes works played by the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and the Wind Symphony. Concert band repertoire includes works by Frank Ticheli, James Barnes, and two British folk songs by Elliot Del Borgo. Folk music by Ticheli and Dimitri Shostakovich, and Edvard Grieg’s “Peer Gynt Suite” will be played by the Symphonic Band. The Wind Symphony will feature “A History of Europe” ranging from France to Wales to Norway to Italy. ETHS Co-Director of Bands Matthew Bufis will conduct the three bands.
Evanston Township High School is located at 1600 Dodge Ave., and the auditorium is handicapped accessible. Parking is best in the lot directly across from the auditorium entrance on Dodge Ave.
