The EMBODI program is designed to refocus the efforts of Delta Sigma Theta with the support and action of other major organizations on the plight of African American males. The EMBODI Summit is open to young men of all ethnic and racial backgrounds. The Summit will include workshops with universally relatable themes, such as: money management; bullying; health and hygiene; transitioning from middle school to high school; and life after high school.
This empowering event continues to grow. Approximately 100 eager young men attended last year’s event with a larger turnout expected for the current year. Other community leaders and organizations have joined with Delta Sigma Theta to carry out the vision of bringing meaningful programs that address the issues facing young males, particularly those concerning African - Americans. The focus is not only on addressing the problems but coming up with tangible solutions. Sandy Williams, EMBODI committee member, explains, “The EMBODI Summit is a significant community event because it uplifts young men by providing a unique opportunity for them to come together to discuss real life issues while identifying opportunities to enhance their future.” Event partner organizations include the Evanston-North Shore NAACP, Evanston Police Department, District 65 School Board, COE MOMS & COE POPS, Westside Community Commission; Omega Psi Fraternity, Inc., Phi Theta Kappa Kappa Chapter; and Youth Action Ministry.
