ETHS hosts IMEA Jazz Festival

Evanston Township High School will host the Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) District 7 Jazz Festival on Saturday, November 19. Following a morning of intense rehearsals, the student musicians from northern Illinois middle schools and high schools will perform in a culminating concert at 1pm in the ETHS auditorium; tickets are $3 at the door.

IMEA District 7 includes schools in elementary through high school districts in Northern Cook, Lake, and McHenry Counties. Students auditioned in October to be selected for this year’s jazz festival.

Seven ETHS musicians were chosen to participate in the jazz festival. Pianist Quinn Sengupta will play in the Jazz I Band; Matt Dunietz will play drums in Jazz II; Sam K. Miller will play tenor sax in Jazz III; and in the Jazz IV band, Ben Nidenberg will play trombone, and Jonah Angulo-Hurtig and Itay Solomon will play drums. In addition, singer Annie Bennett will perform with the vocal jazz chorus.
