
Enjoy two evenings of cool jazz in an intimate setting when Evanston Township High School presents its Jazz Cabaret Concerts on March 16 and 17. The concerts, both different, will feature the ETHS student jazz combos and big bands with special guest artist Audrey Morrison, noted trombonist.
Each concert begins at 6:30pm in the ETHS Terrace dining room and Upstairs Theater, where your $10 ticket includes hors d’oeuvres and beverages. Tickets are available through the ETHS Fine Arts Hotline at 847-424-7848.
The March 16th roster of student combos and bands includes the Percussion Jazz Ensemble, Sidewinder Combo, Time Out Combo, Milestones Combo, Giant Steps Combo, and the Jazz Band. Groups playing on March 17 include the Mosaic Combo, Return to Forever Combo, Infinity Combo, the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Lab Band, Brilliant Corners Combo, and the Jazz Ensemble.

Guest artist Audrey Morrison is the Director of Jazz Studies and Jazz Trombone faculty at the Music Institute of Chicago. A native of New York City, she studied under Emory Remington and Bill Dobbins at the Eastman School of Music. As lead trombonist with the Chicago Jazz Ensemble for over 15 years, she performed with many legendary jazz greats. She has also been a member of the big bands of Clark Terry, Barrett Deems and the DIVA band in New York City.
Morrison has performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival and at jazz festivals and jazz venues in Canada, Europe and the Middle East. A performer and educator in both classical and jazz styles, she is a member of the Jazz sextet SHE and Lake Forest Symphony and teaches classical music at Columbia College/Chicago and North Park University. Audrey teaches and performs with the Ravinia Jazz Mentors and at the Birch Creek Music Center in Door County, WI. She is a clinician for Conn-Selmer and is an active adjudicator, clinician and soloist at high school and college jazz festivals.

ETHS is located at 1600 Dodge Ave. in Evanston. The ETHS Terrace and Upstairs Theatre are both handicapped accessible by elevator. Parking for the Jazz Cabarets is best in the school’s rear parking lot; enter off Church or Lake Sts.
