ETHS musicians celebrate winter

Over 300 student musicians will take the stage when Evanston Township High School presents its Winter Music Festival at 7pm on Tuesday, February 28, in the ETHS auditorium.

Two orchestras (String Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra), the ETHS bands, and two vocal groups (Concert Choir and Chorale) will perform. Many selections will showcase music from the students’ upcoming performance trip to DisneyWorld, including choral music from the Disney classic film “The Princess and the Frog” and the bands playing a medley of hits from the original Disney attractions, as well as pieces from “The Lion King” and from Pixar-animated films. Orchestral highlights include the String Orchestra playing an all-English program focusing on “Greensleeves” and “Saint Paul’s Suite,” and the Symphony Orchestra playing music from the opera “Merry Mount” by American composer Howard Hanson. Additional choral numbers include Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy,” a traditional Zambian song, and others.

Tickets, available at the door, are $3 for adults, no charge for students and senior citizens. Evanston Township High School is located at 1600 Dodge Ave., and the auditorium is handicapped accessible. Parking is best in the lot directly across from the auditorium entrance on Dodge Ave.
