Step inside the most intimate of rooms to see how people’s private lives were shaped and transformed by technology, new materials, and social change.
“Bedrooms, Bathrooms, and Boudoirs” offers a look at the evolution of the home’s most personal of spaces and customs from the mid 19th century to the mid 20th century. Documenting sleeping and hygiene habits, the exhibit also explores how the introduction of modern comfort and conveniences, such as the spring mattress and indoor plumbing, changed these personal spaces. The stories of these private, domestic rooms are told through clothing, furniture and decorative arts, all from EHC’s collections.
