Come out this Saturday from 11 to 3 to take part in Lincoln Elementary School’s first Fall Festival in years. After a 10.2 million dollar renovation that addressed many life-safety issues and equipped the school to accommodate increased enrollment, Lincoln families want to share their new school with the community. Superintendent Dr. Hardy Murphy will take part in a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon followed by a school tour. Additional tours will be conducted at 1 PM and 2 PM.
“I have great memories of coming to Lincoln’s Fall Fest when I was a student here,” says Lincoln kindergarten teacher Claire Lawrence. “It’s exciting to revive the tradition, especially this year when we have so much to celebrate.”

There will be plenty of fun and food for the whole family, with a moonwalk, giant slide, games, prizes, pumpkins and raffle items. Proceeds will help support the development of public spaces at the school designed to engage students and visitors in hands-on learning with natural play spaces, gardens and art installations. Fest-goers will have the opportunity to make a tile for a permanent art piece on the grounds created by Sonata Kazimieraitiene, the artist responsible for the Map of Evanston mosaic on Main Street between the el and Metra stations.

“It’s a great opportunity to make something beautiful and be part of a legacy,” says Lincoln School’s Public Space committee member Sarah Laing, who was also project coordinator on the Main St. mural. “People will be able to come back 50 years from now and see their tile.”
