
Downtown Evanston's first-ever "Green" restaurant crawl will take place on Tuesday, October 5. Organized by the nonprofit organization BASE (Business Alliance for a Sustainable Evanston), the evening will include stops at Vinic Wine, Quince at the Homestead and Blind Faith Café.
Participants will enjoy small bites and sample sustainably-produced wine while learning about energy conservation, water efficiency, and Evanston's growing sustainable food movement.
Sandeep Ghaey of Vinic Wine says the company wanted to be a part of the Evanston Green Restaurant Crawl to highlight organic, biodynamic and sustainable wines. He says such suppliers tend to be very small, and often do not pursue environmental certifications. "We wanted to showcase them as well as raise awareness of businesses that are making conscientious efforts to bring green practices to Evanston."

Quince at the Homestead's Executive Chef Andy Motto sources food from both the Evanston Farmer's Market as well as the Green City Market. The Homestead also features rooftop and ground-level organic gardens, irrigated by rain barrels – according to owner Dave Reynolds, "We're probably closer to our food source than anybody else."
Blind Faith Café is Evanston's only Green Restaurant Association certified restaurant, with a vegetarian menu and compostable carryout containers among many other green practices.
