Northwestern Professor Explores Racial Imagery Found in Early 20th Century Valentine's Day Cards

Harvey Young Jr, Associate Professor of African-American Studies, Performance Studies, Radio/Television/Film, and Theatre; gives a public lecture: "A Racist Love Note: Stereotypes and Caricatures on Early 20th Century Valentine’s Day Cards". He discusses the imagery of African Americans in early greeting cards and what this says about the larger society's fears and prejudices. Dr. Young is an award-winning author and an internationally recognized authority on African American culture and performing arts. This event takes place in the Community Meeting Room.
