Spex, Chicago’s premier destination for luxury eyewear and sunwear, holds their next “Art+Vision” event with mixed media works by Dempster team members Lisa Ritter and Marissa De La Mora. The opening reception is on Friday, November 18 from 5-8 pm, at 522 DempsterStreet, Evanston, IL, 60602; 847 864 5200; www.spexchicago.com. The work will be on view through December 30, 2011. Refreshments and appetizers will be served. A trunk show featuring the Prada eyewear collection will be showcased during the reception.

“PRADA eyewear has created a loyal following. There’s a decidedly visible difference in their collections,” says store manager Laura Bloom. “PRADA truly meets the needs for discerning customers who want a degree of originality. The collection often features a limited-edition frame. Their ‘minimal Baroque’ sun wear collection is a show stopper for any fashionista!” The entire PRADA collection will be available for preview during the trunk show.

Chicago artist Lisa Ritter has been spreading paint on canvas for 15 years and has been spreading her colorful absurdist canvases around the world for over five years. Printed reproductions of Ritter’s creative works may be found in several publications including the 2007-08 edition of New Art International and The Wake Magazine of Minneapolis, November 2006 issue. Ritter has a BFA degree from Saint Mary’s of Notre Dame. Creative works featured at our opening reception are from her ‘Wordy Worldling’ painting series. The series is comprised of colorful absurdist reactions to basic human concepts of interaction, satisfaction, collection and recollection.

Artist Marissa De La Mora was born in Chicago and raised in Mexico. Bold, pop culture iconography and Marissa’s Mexican heritage are large influences. The world of art and the intense desire to create serve as the most important and prominent motivation throughout Marissa’s life. Living in the urban landscape of Chicago, De La Mora has developed a taste for inner city street art such as wheat-pasted posters, flyers, stickers and the boldness of street murals and spray-painted graffiti. Meeting new friends and learning about new art techniques, the ‘underground’ and ‘outsider’ art appeal became part of her life and sparked the fusion that is her vibrant art today.
