Hula is a gentle form of exercise that stretches the body and soothes the mind. It is a perfect exercise for both women and men of all ages and body types. The music takes us to a tropical paradise where we learn to tell the story of the hula with beautiful hand motions, and sway to the rhythms of the enchanting Hawaiian melodies. Along with learning the basic steps and hand motions, participants will learn a full hula choreography. We will also explore Tahitian dance, both ori (fast hip shakin’ dancing) and aparima (a slower dance that tells a story similar to hula). Class notes will be provided. Wear comfortable exercise clothing. Hula is danced barefoot, but ballet slippers (soft soles) or socks are acceptable.
