Evanston BMO Harris Bank Robbed

Potential suspect nabbed in someone else's house.

Evanston police have a man in custody that could be a suspect in an early afternoon bank robbery at BMO Harris bank in the 1600 block of Maple Avenue.

Police said in a news release Wednesday that a subject described as a black male, about 20 years old and six feet tall with a thin build, entered the bank at 12:05 p.m. and handed a teller a note announcing a robbery and indicated that the teller would be shot if they did not comply with his demands.

After the teller gave the subject an undetermined amount of money, he left on foot wearing a dark hat and dark coat.

A short time later officers from the Evanston Police Department’s Problem Solving Team who were checking the train stops for the offender in the bank robbery, observed a subject on the platform at the South Boulevard CTA station that matched the description of the offender in the bank robbery.

As the officers went to approach the subject, he jumped off of the platform and ran westbound on foot into the neighborhood just west of the station.

Officers then set up a perimeter of the immediate area and were conducting a search, when a resident from the 600 block of Callan Avenue approached an officer and stated that she just returned home and discovered that her residence was locked from the inside.

Police forced entry to the residence and upon searching, located the subject that fled from the South Boulevard CTA station hiding inside the bathroom. He was taken into custody and transported to the Evanston Police Department for further investigation.

Police are still investigating if the subject is the same person who robbed the bank.
