Evanston Bookkeeper Accused of Stealing $17,000 from His Boss

Prosecutors said bookkeeper forged employer's name on blank company checks.

A bookkeeper from Evanston turned himself into Palos Heights police after he was accused of stealing $17,000 from his employer, prosecutors said in court Thursday.

According to the charges, Paul Schneider, 53, of Evanston was a bookkeeper for a Palos Heights landscaper. Between Sept. 9 and Oct. 5, Schneider took blank checks and forged his employer’s signature totaling $17,000.

The loss was discovered when the owner of the company during an audit. Schneider turned himself in on Nov. 19, according to a Palos Heights police report.

Schneider was charged with theft by deceptive practice.

Bail was set at $100,000. Schneider’s next court hearing is Dec. 18 in Bridgeview.
