Evanston To Celebrate Earth Hour Capital City Designation
The city received the second most votes in the worldwide contest.

The city of Evanston will celebrate its recent designation as the World Wildlife Fund’s 2015 U.S. Earth Hour Capital City with a reception next week at the Morton Civic Center.
Officials will thank the many residents, businesses and community organizations that have contributed to Evanston’s climate and environmental achievements in Council Chambers on Monday, April 27 at 5:45 p.m.
Evanston was selected as the City Capital by an 11-member jury composed of renowned leaders in urban sustainability, according to a news release issued Monday.

An 8-week “We Love Cities” campaign promoting each of the 46 cities participating worldwide resulted in Evanston earning a total of 14,365 votes - second in the world only behind Balikpapan, Indonesia.
Evanston’s vote total eclipsed those of much larger cities, including Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg and Vancouver.
