Evanston Construction Program Splits Costs Of Sidewalk Replacement

First-come, first-serve 50/50 sidewalk replacement program applications open.

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston property owners can improve the safety and appearance of their neighborhood by participating in the City’s 50/50 Sidewalk Replacement Program, which splits the costs of fixing up and maintaining sidewalks around town. While streets are maintained by the City, repair and replacement of damaged sidewalk slabs are the responsibility of the homeowner or business whose property is adjacent to the sidewalk.

Through the 50/50 Sidewalk Replacement Program, the City pays half the cost of replacing the eligible sidewalk and the property owner pays the remaining half. A typical 26.5 square foot sidewalk slab costs $192.13, of which half ($96.06) will be invoiced to the property owner.

Sign ups are open for the spring portion of the program until Friday, May 12. Residents will have another opportunity to sign up for the 50/50 program later this summer.
