Evanston Cop Will Be Punished For Sleeping On the Job

The police officer was caught sleeping in his squad car outside the downtown movie theater Saturday night.

An Evanston police officer who fell asleep on the job outside the Century 12 movie theater in downtown Evanston Saturday night will be disciplined.

The unnamed officer was caught sleeping in his squad car by a concerned citizen before midnight Saturday, a community activist told CBS-2-Chicago.

The activist, Carolyn Murray, said she was upset by what she saw in the photographs taken by the concerned citizen given the recent wave of violent crime in the city.

“Anytime, obviously, an officer is committing a violation against policy, it’s not only embarrassing, but very discouraging for the image of the department,” Deputy Chief Jay Parrott told CBS.

The officer has not been involved with any previous disciplinary issues and will not be named. He was also on the “tail end” of a double-shift, according to a police spokesperson.
