Evanston Cops Arrest 2 Burglary Suspects in 1 Day

The pair were arrested in separate incidents on Thursday.

EVANSTON, IL - Police in Evanston arrested two people in separate burglary incidents reported in the city on Thursday.

Tewayne T. Kennedy, 20, of the 1900 block of Jackson was charged with residential burglary and criminal trespass in the morning after police say they saw him fleeing a backyard in the 1900 block of Wesley Avenue on foot. Police were called to the location around 6:05 a.m. when a 48-year-old woman said she heard a noise coming from her garage and saw a black man entering the garage through an unlocked door.

Police later connected Kennedy to a similar incident that allegedly occurred earlier in the 1100 block of foster Street but was not reported until 8 a.m. A resident there told police that at 5 a.m. he found a black man inside his apartment. The suspect told the resident he was looking for someone else and must have had the wrong apartment when confronted. But the man, who police say was Kennedy, left carrying a tan backpack and the resident later learned that his roommate had a tan bag with an I-phone and other items in it stolen.
