Evanston Crime Statistics For 2016 Released
Robbery and overall crime rates have fallen, but reports of aggravated and sexual assaults rose.

EVANSTON, IL — The Evanston Police Department released Tuesday its 2016 statistics covering series crimes includes murder, criminal sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault/battery, burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft and arson.
Overall, such crimes (Part I crimes) were down for the second year in a row, falling by 7.2 percent. That equated to 141 fewer victims in 2016 compared with 2015, according to the data.
Thefts make up the largest proportion of Part I crimes, 1269 of the 1811 crimes reported in Evanston for 2016, down 11.9 percent compared to 2015 numbers.

As for violent crimes, Evanston saw a reduction in violent crime numbers in the categories of murder and a 25.5 percent decrease in robberies.
Aggravated assault/battery was up by 9.1 percent and the number of criminal sexual assaults reported rose from zero in 2015 to six in 2016.
