Evanston Environmentalist the 1st to Get NCEHS Award

Lynn Lawson was recognized by 9th District Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky among others.

EVANSTON, IL - Evanston resident Lynn Lawson, who has been described as a “game changing” environmental activist became the first recipient of the National Center for Environmental Health Strategies’ NCEHS El PIONEER award back in September.

A small ceremony held at the 90-year old’s longtime Evanston home last month celebrated the award, which was given to Lawson for her educational efforts to bring awareness of the impact of toxic exposures on public health.

9th District Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, who called Lawson “a strong pillar” in the community, presented the award to Lawson, who was joined by close friends and other environmental health activists.

“I was honored to present Evanston resident, Lynn Lawson, with the first ever National Center for Environmental Health Strategies EI PIONEER Award for her efforts to bring awareness to the impact of toxic exposures on our public health,” Schakowsky stated on her Facebook page. “Throughout her life Lynn has been a tireless environmental activist who has fought to improve the lives of those in her community.”

Lawson - a founding member of North Shore Village - has been called “our generation’s Rachel Carson” by others.
