Evanston Fire Division Chief to Retire

Tom Janetske has been an Evanston firefighter since 1989.

Division Chief Tom Janetske will retire from the Evanston Fire Department on September 4.

“Division Chief Janetske has served our Department and the City of Evanston with honor and dedication for over 26 years,” according to Fire Chief Greg Klaiber. “Tom’s knowledge in the areas of fire prevention, life safety code enforcement and all hazards planning will be missed...We are thankful for all he has done to leave our Department in a better place.”

Janetske was hired as an Evanston firefighter on August 14, 1989 and was promoted to Division Chief od the Fire Prevention Bureau in 2008. That same year, he was appointed the City’s Emergency Preparedness Manager.

The Department will hold a retirement ceremony for Division Chief Janetske on Thursday, September 3, at 2 p.m. in the Sanders Hicks Training Classroom, 909 Lake Street.
