Evanston Firefighters Stop Backyard Blaze From Spreading To Home On Milburn Street

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston firefighters contained a backyard fire before it could spread through a home Wednesday evening in the 700 block of Milburn Street, according to the Evanston Fire Department.

The department reported that crews responded at approximately 5 p.m. to reports of a backyard fire extending to a residential structure. First-arriving units reached the scene within minutes and found moderate smoke from live wires, a downed tree and fire conditions in the rear of the property, according to the department.

Crews quickly contained the fire, preventing it from spreading indoors and minimizing smoke and heat damage, according to the department.

The department said the actions taken by companies at the scene allowed firefighters to contain the blaze and limit its extension using local resources. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The department did not release additional details about what may have started it or whether anyone was displaced.
