Evanston Has 'A Long History of Doing the Right Thing': Mayor
Elizabeth Tisdahl says the city's $5,000 donation to Flint is "the right thing to do."

EVANSTON, IL - Both Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and Assistant City Manager Martin Lyons have defended the city of Evanston’s $5,000 donation to the United Way of Genessee County (MI)’s fund for water for the city of Flint.
According to Evanston Now, the money will come from the city’s water fund and could fall under a number of line items such as public education expenses.
Tisdahl says the gift was the right thing to do.

“When another city needs water helping them is the right thing to do, and Evanston has a long, proud history of doing the right thing,” she said.
Several residents of Flint, Michigan have developed lead poisoning since 2014, when a cost cutting move shifted the city’s water source from Lake Huron to the Flint River.

Lyons said expenditures less than $20,000 are allowed to be made by a department manager without City Council approval.
