"This promotion is our way of thanking the community for supporting the small and long-standing businesses that give Evanston its character," said Katie Boden, Economic Development Coordinator. "Every dollar spent locally helps these businesses continue to thrive."

The city said spending locally has a direct and lasting impact on Evanston's economy. Dollars spent at locally owned businesses tend to recirculate within the community at a higher rate than spending at national chains because local owners are more likely to hire local staff, buy from other area businesses and reinvest in their storefronts.
