21-year-old Parker J. Cavalier, of the 800 block of Hinman Avenue, clenched his fists, spit on the ground, punched his fist into his hand and began belligerently threatening one of the cops, police said.

One of the officers on scene reported that Cavalier said he would "catch [him] outside of work" and "beat [his] ass" if he were not wearing his police uniform, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan.

Cavalier was known to the officer from a prior incident, Dugan said. Reporting that he felt in immediate fear of receiving a battery, the officer struck Cavalier with an "open-handed strike, which proved to be effective," according to police reports.

Cavalier was arrested at 12:30 a.m. on June 10 and charged with felony aggravated assault. Police said Cavalier ignored continued verbal commands to calm down after being taken into custody.
