Evanston Mayor To Host Four Police Q&As In August

Televised and live-streamed online sessions will help inform the City Council's discussion on policing in Evanston.

Community members are invited to join Mayor Stephen Hagerty, members of the Evanston Police Department, and guests for four upcoming conversations on policing in Evanston.

The discussions are a part of Mayor Hagerty's Q&A and discussion series, which provides community members with an opportunity to learn and ask questions about a variety of topics related to policing. These sessions, televised and streamed live online, will help inform the City Council's discussion on policing in Evanston as they consider any appropriate changes to better serve the community.

Upcoming conversations include:

  • Police Calls for Service, Monday, August 10, noon
  • Police Use of Force - A Perspective from Impacted Residents, Monday, August 17, noon
  • Alternative Policing Models, Monday, August 24, noon
  • Conversation with Black Youth on Policing, August 31, noon

Residents can watch the discussions live on Channel 16 and on the City’s Facebook page. Questions may be submitted live during the broadcast or in advance using the City’s Q&A form, or by commenting on the Facebook Live broadcast.

For those unable to participate, recordings of the broadcasts will be available and shared through the City’s communications channels later in the week.

Previous discussions in the series have focused on the Complaint Process, Use of Force and Body Cameras, EPD Collaboration with NUPD and Schools, Police Budget and Police Training. Community members can watch recordings of these discussions on the City's YouTube channel.
